With crowdsourcing sites out there, is web design still a profitable industry?

I just saw sites where you can run a competition and pay for the best design for a few dollars. I wonder if web design is still a lucrative career these days, given that you can shop for designs online like you would buy fish on a flea market.

Yes, it is still a lucrative career and when competition gets tougher, you need to take on your best hat and learn the art of personal branding. What sets you apart from the rest?
