Sometimes, there are clients who may not know that their directions/instructions will lead the project to more harm than good. What do you do in this scenario? Should you just follow what they want by the book or should you try to correct them and make suggestions? The first one means playing it safe so when things go wrong, the blame will totally be off your plate as you're simply following directions. The second one is more like a moral choice... as in ethics. Which one is the right thing to do when you're freelancing? |

While I was surfing the Web for juicy news on freelancing, I've encountered this post from Freelance Folder: Why the Client’s Directions Are Even More Important Than You Think. I think that many freelancers will play it safe by following their clients' instructions at heart so when things go wrong, the blame is on your client. Still, your client will respect you and trust you more if you dare to step out of your comfort zone and suggest them new directions for the project to take. Just make sure you validate it with good reasons and supporting data, and that you take responsibility when your suggestion is implemented. |
