Lately, I've been seeing a lot of job postings online where it states that the 'winner' will be awarded the work - meaning, that the client is asking for work sample or spec work from hundreds of applicants. Should freelancers treat this as a red flag or should they just go ahead and participate in what seems to be a healthy competition among freelance experts? I just think that it's a waste of time...

I think this is considered a scam.. and as long as there are freelancers who are giving away work for free, we can never really stop this problem. I think we need to pass along the message to our fellow freelancers: No to Spec Work! Plain and simple :)

Thanks! I'm having second doubts about joining one too and I'd say listening to my gut instincts will serve me good. So, I'm joining the shoutout as well: No to Spec Work!
