I'm working on a fixed rate contract and we have already defined payment dates on the contract. The thing is, the client will be two weeks late of scheduled payment date for some confidential reason. Should I add a late payment fee or penalty so that next time, I will get my pay on time?

This is a sensitive situation for the mere fact that your client is already having troubles paying you in the first place. Do you have a work contract drafted? If so, have you stated just how much percentage of the owed amount should you be charging for as late payment fee? If not, then.. you will only have to go on good fate here and try your best to persuade your client to pay up. Next time, you may check out this DIY Collections Process Guide for Freelancers. Good Luck!

I think, even if I want to charge a late payment fee... I'll have to do it next time, perhaps..make revisions on the original contract after I have received payment. Thanks for the help :)
