Five Reasons Not to Succeed at Freelancing
As freelancing is now becoming the new full time, many are jumping into the freelance caravan with hope of a decent income. The internet makes it possible for people all over the world to get plenty of resources to start their freelance career. Sadly, with opportunities… come lies and myths. Being a seasoned freelancer, I’d say it’s a heaven and hell journey that only the toughest character can make.
If you think that freelancing is an easy ticket to success without having to sweat it out, you’ll have to swallow a bitter pill. With many who come, many more goes and give up just because their desires have not been met. If you think you’ve got no real skills that’s why you want to freelance, you better not start at all. Freelancing is not an excuse, but a way of disciplined life.
5 Reasons Why You are Set to Fail in Freelancing
1. You’re Not Serious
Don’t get me wrong here. Many just don’t take their freelance works seriously. Just because you are working in your pajamas doesn’t mean that you’re passing time on the web. If you have no focus in your freelance career, you will also lose it on your freelance gigs. Stop being a jack-of-all-trades and be a master in something you do best.
2. You Listen to Bad Stuff
Bad things happen, no doubt. But if you focus on bad stories about freelancing instead of the good ones, you’ll end up with wrong perceptions that can hinder your growth as a freelancer. Someone may got scammed or another says that finding freelance work is hard. They are not you! Why don’t you give it your best shot?
3. You think that Freelancing is Easy Work
Opposite of No.2, you are just way too confident to think that freelance work is not real work. This thinking can sabotage your efforts, making you slow down and miss deadlines. Know that many clients send work to freelancers because they don’t know the solutions or that the work is really hard.
4. You are Greedy ( or Paranoid )
Whether it’s all about getting more jobs or fear of losing a viable source of income, you just pig it out and eat everything that comes along. This is fine if you can manage your time well, where you give equal amounts of commitment to each client. If you can’t keep up in giving the best work for all, you may begin losing clients and risk having a bad rep.
5. You are too Busy to Talk
Many freelancers are just too excited with a new project that they forget to communicate with their clients. Keep in mind that they are busy too and if you go away for too long without even saying ‘hello,’ you might simply be forgotten. Everyone’s busy, but always have the courtesy of letting your clients know the progress of work and send a thank you note once the project is done.
Being a successful freelancer takes time and discipline to achieve. You need to learn from your mistakes and be persistent with your quest. Rejection is a part of life and no one is a born loser. The Right Attitude Will Make You Win!
