12 Things Your Customers Want to Tell You, but Don’t

When I started freelancing, I worked like a virtual droid: bid for a project, get the work done, collect the payment, and move on to my next gig. It’s like working in a production line where you get to pack cans of sardines all day – until I realized that dead fishes don’t talk, but my customers do.

By building a relationship with my clients, and understanding their expectations of me – even if they don’t specifically tell me, I get to build myself a golden ship full of loyal customers wanting to sail with me and stay on board for the longest time running.

12 Things Your Freelance Clients Want You to Know , but Haven’t Told You

1.  I know that nobody is perfect, but I need to know I can trust you to do your job.

2.  Regardless of what your skills and experiences are, I am always right!  Learn to listen to my needs, and give me my money’s worth.

3.  You really don’t need to be a Jack or Jane of all trades.  Just simply be good at what I hired you to do.

4.  Nothing makes my day more than a friendly hello and small talks that can give me a glimpse of who you really are.

5.  I really don’t mind spending money, as long as I get great value in doing so.

6.  I hired your services because I have a problem.  You can help by reducing that load and becoming my secret weapon to success.

7.  If you have my loyalty and trust, I can be forgiving when you screw up once in a while.  As I said, nobody is perfect.

8.  I hate to admit I am wrong, but I trust and respect you more if you admit it when you’re wrong.

9.  I can’t deny I’m jealous when I feel you give other customers more love than you give me.

10.  I really don’t know what I want most of the time and you have to help me figure it out.

11.  When I refer my friends to you and you give them great service, I really feel smart.

12.  I’m busy. If you go too long without making contact, I might forget that you exist.

If you can address all of these, then, you are on your way to creating that memorable experience for your clients.  Or simply, just go the extra mile and you won’t regret that you did.
